Kawasaki ZRX1200R

My 1988 Yamaha FZR1000 Genesis

If you're interested in buying the FZR, it's a 1987 'D' registration, bought second hand by me when it was 3 months old in June 1987. I've owned it ever since and it has a full service history, last engine and running gear service in June 2002 since when it's done 39, yes, 39 miles. It's MoT'd until 26 May 2005 and taxed until 31 May 2005.  It's still totally stock apart from a Renntec grabrail.  Never been dropped (ah, well, except that Mallory incident and it was repaired using manufacturer's parts by a main dealer). Excellent condition, 22,300 genuine miles only. It qualifies for "classic bike" insurance so it's cheaper to insure than most other bikes.  It's being advertised on eBay from 8.00pm on 28 May 2004. You're too late: it's sold! {sob}

Here are some recent photos:

Oulton Park

This is a photo of me on my Yamaha FZR1000 at Oulton Park on my first track day back in 1988. It was organised by Performance Bikes magazine and although a bit over-subscribed on the day, I enjoyed myself so much that it has led to many more...

It was my first real experience of the grip you get at the track despite being on standard OE tyres - I could not believe how much the kneesliders came in handy.

Get Down y'Bugger!

Bimota YB8

I almost bought a Bimota YB8 or YB10 Dieci once, it was the test ride that put me off: it handled superbly and the EXUP engine was liberated by the pipe, but the build quality wasn't good - in fact the front mudguard fell off on the motorway after I collected it from the importers!

My favourite track to ride is Mallory Park in Leicestershire. This is a shot of me at the hairpin on a Bimota Owners' Club track day. If you compare this photo and the Oulton Park photo, you will see that the helmet, boots and gloves are all different...

Mallory Park Hairpin

Mallory Park Bus Stop

...because I dropped the FZR at Mallory Park a week before my daughter was born in 1991, destroyed the gloves and damaged the Arai helmet! I also dislocated my left shoulder, tore most of the ligaments in my right ankle and broke my left hand. I still rode the 100 miles home after lunch because I'm that tough ~:0) This is a shot of me exiting the Bus Stop chicane.

As you can see, the FZR still gets its share of trackdays: this is it on the Gold Track Driving Club track day at Snetterton on 1 September 1999.

Must try harder...
Burnout at the Bol d'Or The old Frank Thomas boots fell apart on one of my trips to the Bol d'Or - this is a 24 hour endurance bike race that used to be held at the Circuit Paul Ricard in the South of France. Unfortunately, it's now held at France's equivalent of Silverstone, so there's no Ardèche Valley, no Gorge du Verdon and no St. Tropez to look forward to if you go. If you never went to the original Bol, you don't know what you missed.
Of course, you can overdo the burnouts wearing out your (punctured) Hi-Sport and annoying your hotel's Receptionist (to say nothing of the damage to road...) Oh Dear!
